Kathe Green - Run the Length of Your Wildness (1969)

Another busy week so another short post... This is a record I think should be better known especially with increased interest in psych-pop/sunshine pop from recent years. OK the cover doesn't looks very sunshiney and it's true that there is a dark quality to some of the songs but I think that just adds to the appeal for me. The orchestrations backing Ms. Green's vocals are grade A and that may be due in part to the producer Wayne Bickerton who was the house producer at Deram records for many years. My favorite track is Primrose Hill--an upbeat, unabashedly pop number with a rousing orchestral finish. From what I could gather Kathe Green had a small part in Peter Sellers' The Party & sang the title song for Die Screaming Marianne. She is the Kathe Green who sang on the Up With People record (which I may post some day). If you have anymore information, want to say hello, or would like to make a request please leave a comment.

You can now hear the music on a new CD from Rev-Ola & so it is no longer available here.

Could you please explain Supply-Side Economics? I'm writing a term paper.

It's a fraud.

I bought a used copy of this album in the early 1980s after noticing Kathe's appearance in The Party (she also supplied Mark Lester's singing voice in Oliver!) and fell in love with it. Sadly, I was economically obliged to sell it on to a dealer for peanuts soon afterwards. Not long after, I discovered the Collectors’ list price was in the region of £45. *sob*. All I can clearly remember from it now is the delightful cover of John & Beverly Martin's 'Primrose Hill'. This really should get a CD release: a true forgotten gem!

Could this be the same "Kathy" Green on the FOLK IS A FOUR LETTER WORD Vertigo Records comp? The song on that comp definitely sounds like Susan Christie - funky folk. THIS album is poppier - and on a different label - but maybe.....

That's Kathy Smith on the FOLK comp, I believe.

Kathe is the sister of my Aunt Babbie,( Barbara Greene), daughter of Johnny Greene, the orchestra conductor, and Betty Furness, (actress and later, LBJ staff member- can't recall which post). She had an alleged affair with Richard Harris, who is pictured within this album cover. Liza Snyder, "Yes, Dear", is Kathe's niece, Barbara's daughter, my cousin. I really liked the album. I grew up listening to it. i never met Kathe, but Babbie was cool, and also composed songs. Check out "Tuesday's Child".

I would love to know what neice or nephew of mine doesn't know how to spell my last name! There is no
"e" on the end of Green. This cousin is also so oddly out of touch with me that they don't realize "Barbara" hasn't been any part of my life for at least 12 years. I love Kathe's album too. And yes, she is on the Up With People album, as a member of the Green Glenn Singers (that would be Kathe and Glenn Close). Kathe is one of my favorite singers and writers, and I would so love to see this album get tons of attention. Yay!
And whoever this neice or nephew is, HI! from your aunt Babbie.....

did you also know Kthe Green was the singing voice of Oliver in the movie musical OLIVER?

I did read that. She did an excellent job too.

Do any of you people actually have any idea of the real Kathe Green's whereabouts? I'm currently in the process of producing the CD reissue of Wildness for the Uk label Rev-Ola and I could really do with speaking to her.
This is NOT a fraud.

The song Primrose Hill here isn't the Martyn's song, it's a Kathe Green original. The album is just about to get reissued by REVOLA in the UK.

Kathe, if you read this my name is Charlotte Kreiser Facella. I was your roommate at the fabulous summer camp Montecito Sequoia in Santa Barbara back in 1955. My father was the commanding general of El Toro. I have pictures of us touring the base and looking at the jets. Also, I remember all the campers went to the Hollywood Bowl to hear your father conduct. What a great time we had. Congrtulations on your career. WOuld love to hear from you.

I'm soooo happily surprised to hear from you!!!! I'd love to talk with you and learn more about you and that summer camp....you might be wondering ... my brain is still healing from a major whacking by a run away 18 wheeler. I was more or less brain dull for 8 yrs and my memory is returning fast but sometimes it needs a "facts/image" jolt. if you have email write me from that so we communicate directly, ok? Can't wait. Cheers, Kathe

Kate wrote some here.
I'm not sure cos it's so hard to get deep clear with the casting of the movie.
If you are the astonishing girl dancing with red dress in The Party, feel free to say hi to me.
I created a The Party group (waoowh..) on Facebook.
Xo..

Kathe,

You probably do not remember me. I was with UPW in '66 (long time ago). I am the one you pushed into the swimming pool in Mount Kisco, NY (I think). I was a member of stage crew.

Plaese could you pass on my name and email to Kathe. I have known her for years and lost touch. I was also in London when "Oliver" was filmed.I did not know she was singing for Oliver until years later.
I am Jenny Austin Bocock. Bunny and Phyll were my parents.
Kathe's parents came to lunch on our farm. My brother in law admitted he had never been to a symphony concert. Johnny did not know the difference between a heifer and a steer.
My email address is:

Kathe,

I wanted to write because I came across your album, "Run the Length of your Wildness", played it, and it took me back to the time when my dad used to play it, and it was one of my favorite song groupings, as it was also very true and would put me at ease as a kid. I would play it in my room (when I could get ahold of it without my dad knowing.) It's just amazing rediscovering it again, and listening to the music. It's very soothing to me, and I cherish it to this day. It brings me back to when I was a kid, and the songs I can appreciate better being older now. I wanted to ask if you're still singing, if you have done anything over the past few years. My email is mikersocal@hotmail.com Thank you so much for the album. I'm thrilled to have rediscovered it!

Sincerely, Mike

Hi Kathe: I'm Bob Caron. I met you in front of the coliseum after President Kennedy's acceptance speech. I asked you out. You gave me your phone number and we had a handful of dates. I remember on our way to the Hollywood bowl we drove alongside Bob Denver, we were in the wrong lane, and you introduced me to him as we were driving. We then saw Henry Mancini, Peggy Lee and the Kingston trio. We later went to the Kingston trio's dressing room. We also went to the JFK rally at east Los Angeles College. I was very impressed by your parents kindness towards me. In my book they were both quality people. I was interested in your fathers belief in one world government as a way of ending war. It was a complicated belief system and not simplistic like I make it sound.I hope you are doing well. I would really like to hear from you but because of the short time that we dated I would understand if you don't wish to respond. I hope you read this.Good health to you and yours.

Hi Robert,

Kathe wanted to get in touch with you. If you read this leave another comment with your email (I won't post it) and I'll get it to her.

Cheers,
Max
